How We Started

A Decade of Real Naija Taste

NaijaBites began in 2016 in a modest kitchen in Surulere, Lagos, where founder Chef Adaeze Okonkwo started recreating the recipes her grandmother, Mama Nkechi, had cooked for over forty years — recipes built on patience, fresh market ingredients, and a generous hand with pepper. What began as weekend jollof deliveries for neighbours soon outgrew Adaeze's kitchen entirely.

In 2019, Adaeze partnered with her brother Emeka to open NaijaBites Restaurant & Grill in Wuse II, Abuja — a dining room designed to feel like the best owambe you've ever attended: warm, colourful, unhurried, and full of life. Today, our kitchen still runs on the same principles Mama Nkechi taught us — real ingredients, honest technique, and food made to be shared.

Every plate that leaves our kitchen is a small act of hospitality. Whether you're here for a quiet lunch of egusi and pounded yam or a Friday night of suya and cold zobo with friends, our goal never changes: real Naija taste, always.

The Dining Room

The NaijaBites Experience

Step into NaijaBites and you'll feel it immediately — the low hum of afrobeats, the sizzle of suya on the grill, the clatter of a table settling in for a long, delicious evening. We built our dining room the way Nigerians gather: close together, plates piled high, stories flowing as freely as the zobo.

Whether it's a first date, a family Sunday lunch, or an owambe pre-game with the squad, our floor team is trained to make every visit feel personal — because at NaijaBites, you're not a table number, you're a guest.

  • Live Afrobeats — Friday & Saturday nights
  • Private Event Hall — up to 80 guests
  • Outdoor Terrace — open-air seating
  • Full Bar & Mixology — Nigerian-inspired cocktails
